Date of Award
Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.)
Sube Cumulo is a work for solo cello, string orchestra and four mallet percussion. It has a duration of roughly 24 minutes. The composition is accompanied by a research paper dealing with the origins, development and influence of minimalism as well as an analysis of the work. The research portion of the paper has been included to aid in the understanding of the composition since the influence of minimalism is evident in the work. Although this influence is an important characteristic of Sube Cumulo, its significance lies in its eclectic nature. Sube Cumulo is a work that utilizes an expanded harmonic palate in comparison to most minimal works and a systematic structure. This work attempts to be a part of the continued evolution of minimalism.
