Dirhenium and compounds containing N,N'-bridging bidentate ligands

Several Re2 compounds containing N,N'-bridging bidentate ligands have been synthesized and structurally characterized. These N,N'-bridging bidentate ligands include several N,N'-dialkylbenzamidinates and 2-anilinopyridinates. Re2(DMBA)4Cl2 (DMBA = N,N'-dimethylbenzamidinate) has been reacted with AgNO 3 in order to form Re2(DMBA)4(NO3) 2. Re2(DMBA)4(NO3)2 has been used to form a number of other compounds, including several 1-D coordination polymers. Most of the N,N'-dialkylbenzamidinate compounds, including the 1-D coordination polymers, show an emission of a 3(delta-delta*) origin. Electrochemical studies of the 2-anilinopyridinate compounds revealed a linear correlation between the Hammett constants of ap-substituent and electrode potentials. From the success of the Re2 1-D coordination polymers. Ru2(DMBA)4(NO3)2 was reacted under similar conditions to form 1-D coordination polymers.
