Abstract

This essay lists 120 different sonatas written by 65 Canadian composers in the twentieth century. It further provides, whenever the information is available, the date of the composition, publisher/date information, duration, tempi of individual movements, information about recordings of the piece, and any published comments. The essay also contains a brief overview of the history of music in Canada and an analysis of Harry Somers' Piano Sonata No. 3.
