Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine and describe the published choral arrangements of Mack Wilberg and to analyze a representative sample of his arrangements. Chapter one is a biography of Wilberg. Chapter two is a discussion of the composer's perspective on his own works and the arranging process. Chapter three contains a survey of Wilberg's thirty-six currently published arrangements. Chapter four is a study and conductor's analysis of the eleven arrangements that make up the representative sample.Appendices include transcripts of the author's interviews with Mack Wilberg, a catalogue of Wilberg's choral arrangements, and a discography. The author conducted a performance of the eleven representative arrangements on April 26, 2000.
