Abstract

Focusing on wind ensemble percussion writing, three pieces from each composer were analyzed and a style comparison executed. Interviews with each composer were conducted during this study. Discussed are methods of composition, scoring style, instrument selection, and performance practices. Each composer displays various tendencies in the areas mentioned, particularly concerning how percussion is balanced in their music. Also discussed are the increasing performance demands of wind ensemble percussionists.
