An overview of the four major choral works of composer/educator/administrator Peter Mennin (b. 1923), who is currently (1982) the President of The Juilliard School in New York City. The discussion of his choral works, The Cycle (Symphony No. 4) (1949), The Christmas Story (1949), Cantate de Virtute (1969) and Reflections of Emily (1979), demonstrates with examples from the various scores his typical compositional characteristics and thematic materials, and identifies his text sources and style. A biographical sketch of the composer is included.
