The purpose of the study was to examine the status of Peruvian string chamber music from 1940 to the present. Specifically, the study surveys the most notable Peruvian composers' views regarding the role of string chamber music vis-a-vis orchestral and instrumental solo works in Peru. The study includes an annotated bibliography of Peruvian string chamber music that lists available works, including their instrumentation and where they may be found. Finally, the study discusses the nationalistic and non-nationalistic compositional styles of Peruvian string chamber music and provides examples of each.
