Abstract

Generation Gap is the concept that a youth generation and a middle age generation are categorically different. The three Generation Gaps often used in the mass media are Flappers, Hippies and Grungers. Also these three youth groups are usually characterized as lackadaisical and causing cataclysm. Due to mass media sociology and history, Generation Gap is rationalized by superficial socio-historical events. The true social roots of the Generation Gap facade are discussed involving life cycle, youth culture, and mass media hyperbole. Finally, post war social trauma is singled out as the trigger for the facade of Generation Gap.
